Professor Martha Crenshaw gave an insightful talk to a large audience at King’s College London into her latest project – the mapping of militant groups, which aims to identify patterns in the evolution of such organizations in conflict theatres in order to discover the causes and consequences of their evolution. Professor Crenshaw is one of the world’s leading authorities on terrorism and counterterrorism. Currently a professor of political science at Stanford University, she taught at Wesleyan University from 1974 to 2007. Her most recent book publications are Explaining Terrorism: Causes, Processes and Consequences (London: Routledge, 2011), and The Consequences of Counterterrorism (New York: Russell Sage, 2010). She has received numerous international prizes, and sits on the boards of many leading journals, institutions, and think tanks.
