Jeni Mitchell
Jeni is a researcher and doctoral student within the King’s Department of War Studies. Her dissertation research focuses on the strategic effects of civilian targeting by non-state armed groups, and features an in-depth case study of the Tajik civil war. She has also conducted research on jihadist ideology and strategy, and ethics and international law in intrastate warfare.
Jeni is a Research Associate of the Centre of Defence Studies and a member of the Insurgency Research Group. Her recent publications include ‘The Contradictory Effects of Ideology on Jihadist War-Fighting: The Bosnia Precedent’, Studies in Conflict and Terrorism (September 2008). She writes frequently for the Crime-Conflict Nexus (http://crimeconflictnexus.wordpress.com), a collaborative research group she created in 2008 to address the role of criminality in modern conflicts.
