Gaspar Martinez is a Catholic priest of the Diocese of Bilbao. He is currently Secretary General of the Diocese of Bilbao and teaches theology at the Diocesan Institute for Theological and Pastoral Studies and at the University of Deusto (Bilbao). Father Martinez trained as an economist and was the Director of Finance of the Diocese of Bilbao (1979-87). During those years he also taught Theology at the Diocesan University School of Teachers in Bilbao. After further managerial studies at London Business School, Father Martinez earned a PhD in Theology from the Divinity School of the University of Chicago. He is the author of the book Confronting the Mystery of God: Political, Liberation, and Public Theologies and of the article "Liberation and Political Theologies" in The Cambridge Companion to Karl Rahner.
