Dr. Gunning is Deputy Director of
the Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Contemporary Political Violence
and Lecturer in Terrorism Studies and Middle Eastern Studies at the Department
of International Politics, Aberystwyth
University. He has
carried out consultant work for the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office,
the British Foreign Affairs Committee, the EU Commission and the US government
and was a member of a three-year-long research project on ‘Political Violence',
sponsored by the Norwegian Government. He is also the architect of the world's
first dedicated Masters in terrorism studies. Dr. Gunning's publications
include Hamas in Politics: Democracy,
Religion, Violence; ‘A Case for Critical Terrorism Studies?' in Government and Opposition; and ‘Peace
with Hamas? The transforming potential of political participation' in International Affairs.
