Professor Freedman is the Vice Principal (Research) King's College London. He is one of the world's most renowned experts on strategic affairs and contemporary security issues. Professor Freedman has written extensively on warfare, strategic and defence issues, including Superterrorism and Terrorism and International Order . Before joining King's, he held research appointments at Oxford University, the International Institute for Strategic Studies and the Royal Institute of International Affairs. He was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 1995 and awarded the CBE in 1996 and was appointed Official Historian of the Falklands Campaign in 1997. Professor Freedman serves as the representative from King's College London to the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence (ISCR).
