
Dr. Peter Neumann is the Director of the Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence (ICSR). Dr. Neumann previously served as the Director of the Centre for Defence Studies at King's College London. He was Academic Director of the Club de Madrid's International Summit on Democracy, Terrorism and Security in 2005 and acted as Senior Advisor to the National Policy Forum on Terrorism, Security and America's Purpose in 2005. Dr. Neumann has authored several books, including
Britain's Long War, a comprehensive assessment of British strategy in the Northern Ireland conflict, and - most recently -
The Strategy of Terrorism (with M.L.R. Smith). He is currently working on a book entitled
Old and New Terrorism - Globalisation and the Transformation of Political Violence, which will be published by Polity Press in early 2009. He has also been published in the
New York Times, the
International Herald Tribune and
Prospect Magazine. Before becoming an academic, Dr. Neumann worked as a radio journalist in Germany. He holds an MA in political science from the Free University of Berlin, and PhD in War Studies from King's College London.
