Roddy Bret is Professor of Social Sciences at the Latin American Faculty for Social Science in Guatemala. He is the ex-Coordinator of the Political Strategy forthe legal cases of genocide brought against former members of Guatemala’s Military High Command of the 1980s. He is also the former Advisor on Indigenous Affairs to the Norwegian Embassy in Guatemala. Dr. Bret’s career combines fifteen years of academic research and teaching in Political Science, in themes including democratisation, genocide studies, political violence, social movements, human rights and indigenous issues. Dr. Bret also has extensive experience working as a practitioner in Latin America across all of these areas. He is the author of three major books, including Indigenous Politics,Social Movements and Democratisation in Guatemala 1985-1996 (forthcoming).
