On 10 March 2009, ICSR released its completed study on radicalisation and the internet, titled ‘Countering Online Radicalisation: A Strategy for Action.‘ At a press conference in central London, Director Peter Neumann and Researcher Tim Stevens, along with Mike Whine of the CST, discussed the details of the study and answered audience questions from policymakers, stakeholders and members of the press. At the heart of the study lies the argument that broadly restrictive measures on websites are unlikely to be effective, and that governments should instead encourage ‘positive’ measures that empower internet users to police their own online communities. The study is available on our projects page and a video as well as a podcast of the 10 March presentation is available below.
