Nicola is Research Director for the Global Network on Extremism and Technology (GNET) and a Research Fellow at ICSR. She is finishing her PhD at Australian National University where her research focuses on foreign fighters from the Soviet-Afghan, tracing their trajectories and impact overtime. Nicola completed her MPhil at the University of Oxford with a focus on repressive counter-terrorism measures. Nicola’s work has been published in the Journal of Global Security Studies and the Journal of Small Wars and Insurgencies. Nicola has also published work on the role of drones in humanitarian protection. Nicola is a fellow at Civil War Paths project at Sheffield University.
Professionally, Nicola has worked for the Victorian Minister for Women and the Prevention of family violence. In this role, she worked on and led a number of projects including the Royal Commission into Family Violence, community Victoria’s inaugural gender equality strategy and the Victoria Against Violence 16-day campaign against gendered violence.
