The Global Network on Extremism and Technology (GNET) is an academic research initiative backed by the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT), an independent but industry-funded initiative for better understanding, and counteracting, terrorist use of technology. This is a special project delivered by ICSR.
Our consortium consists of tiered membership, of which there are core, auxiliary and associate members. Core members take the lead for both identifying and researching new trends surrounding terrorist use of technology in their regions. As such, we have core members based in North America, Europe, Southeast Asia and Australia. This tier of the consortium is supported by auxiliary members who represent a more geographically diverse spread of institutions, with members based in Europe, North Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean and South Asia. Associate membership is extended to individuals who conduct research within this space but who are not involved with GNET at an institutional level.
This multi-layered and interdisciplinary approach is shaped by GNET’s overarching philosophy: “Global Coverage, Local Expertise.”
