Extremism, Terrorism and Strategic Communication

The VOX-Pol Network of Excellence

The VOX-Pol Network of Excellence (NoE) is an academic research network focused on researching Violent Online Political Extremism.

ICSR is a founding member of this consortium and collaborates in its interdisciplinary network of computer scientists and scholars from across the humanities and social sciences, investigating how different forms of violent extremism operate online. Our contribution to the consortium covers the following activities:

  • Measuring the impact of censorship by mapping networks of jihadist groups’ supporters on mainstream social media;
  • Hosting high-profile academic events designed to disseminate research on online radicalisation to a wide audience; and
  • Building a network of researchers and practitioners to produce a roadmap for future research into online violent extremism.
